Color

I’m borderline obsessively thinking about color lately. I blame it on a culmination of factors. For reasons I have yet to solidly formulate, I’m surrounding myself with less with neutrals (which are fascinating too) and more saturated colors. Case in point: I’ve been wearing a bright yellow spring jacket on warmish days. Bright yellow! (I always avoid yellow because I’ve never thought it’s flattering, but this seems OK. Or perhaps I just like it so well I don’t care.)

It seems that nearly everyone else is focused on color this spring. Bright color. I even noticed that In Style magazine titled the current issue such.

I was completely taken with the NYer’s article One is the Loveliest Color. “Commitment? Art project? OCD? Five New Yorkers who wear only one color all day, every day (and it’s not black).”

Don’t follow this link to Colour Lovers, where you can make, view, and rate color palettes and patterns, unless you have a couple spare hours to spend playing. Seriously fun. Here’s one of mine:

Rain, Rain Go Away

Also, there’s an amazing tag cloud of colors from Delores Labs called The Amazing Color Label Wheel, and a blog post about the project.

I’ve not read much about color in philosophy, but this article at Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy seems like a good starting point.

Apartment Therapy posted some interesting thoughts about one of my favorite recent color related findings, MOMA’s online exhibit Color Chart: Reinventing Color 1960 to Today.
