Snow-Free Saturday
Forecast for this Saturday, March 1: Sunny, with a high of 52 degrees.
And there are things to do.
I believe that this week Black Bear Bakery continues with its new Saturday morning all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast. Who knew that a pancake breakfast was so controversial…? Without reflecting any opinions or beliefs deeper than my tummy’s enjoyment of tasty baked goods and my support of independently owned businesses, I tried out the breakfast 2 weeks ago. The price was $8-$10 dollars. I had precisely $19 and some change on me in cash, and so decided on an even $18 to cover breakfast for 2. (I was not solicited to purchase a t-shirt of any affiliation, nor did I notice any…) Everything was fresh and yummy, with offerings including 2 types of pancakes, one whole grain and dairy free, plus awesome French Toast (or would that be Freedom Toast, considering the apparent politically charged nature of pancake breakfasts? Fine, fine, never mind, I’m done.) I topped everything off with butter, maple syrup, a not-too-sweet raspberry sauce to cut things, a sprinkling of pecans, and a bottomless cup of coffee. Yay.
To my knowledge, the breakfast is every Saturday from 9AM - 1PM. Black Bear Bakery is located at 2639 Cherokee Street.

Also on Cherokee, at the Community Arts and Media Project, is the anticipated Boxcutter Cabaret Puppet Tour. According to the event poster “the shows convey a general dissatisfaction with post-modern convenience and promote a return to old-timey difficulty.” Hey, that’s my line. More details on the show for puppet fans from the RFT.
CAMP is located at Cherokee & Minnesota streets. The show is from 7PM - 9PM and admission is a donation of $5/adults and $2 for children.

And finally, there’s a free show, with 4 bands, at White Flag Projects. “White Flag says that you can come hang out in the dark Saturday night with big ass sculptures (like 50 feet) by Jason Peters.”
Brooklyn based artist Jason Peters challenges viewers’ opinions of space, environment, and material with his large scale found object installations. Music includes local Westernland (some guys from some band), Thankful Tree, and Team Tomato, and Ribbons of Song from Grand Rapids, Michigan.
White Flag Projects is located at 4568 Manchester Avenue. Doors open at 8PM, music is from 9PM - 1AM, and the show is free.
