Because the Internet Has Feelings
So I’ve recently been reminded that, yet again, the Internet misses me. And because I’m half reading both GEB AND The Metaphysics of Virtual Reality, I’m reminded that complex systems have feelings too. (Yes, that’s a joke. No it’s not. Yes it is. No. Yes. Yes, this is an Eddie Izzard reference. Anyway…)
((Do I get to have a parenthetical phrase inside another parenthetical phrase after I’ve just finished a previous parenthetical phrase? (Don’t you just love the phrase ‘parenthetical phrase?’) I vote yes, muhahaha.) So what’s ‘half reading’ you ask? It’s when Amy ends up with a stack of new books that are all equally fascinating and she can’t help but pick up whichever is closest at the moment until she’s thoroughly confused. Thank you Drew for the Border’s gift card.)
I’d attempt to get back to the point, but really, there isn’t one, other than I’m showing my remorse for neglecting the Internet by writing you (it?) one of my good old fashioned directionless rambles while I should actually be organizing my closest or vacuuming or studying Latin or returning phone calls or making dinner or something else terribly useful like that. (Is Latin still considered useful outside of very specific circles? Discuss.)
So let’s see, what’s going on. I’ve been catching up on everyone else’s blogs a bit, but I’m not going to link to much because I’m so behind it’s all old news and you’ve probably already read it.
This past weekend, I caught up some sleep, finally (I think) kicking my nasty cold, had Thai food, went on a futile search for the perfect Christmas cards, ate at Uncle Bill’s, and caught Stella Mora, among others, at the Ashborne benefit show at Off Broadway. It appears that the rumor that they’re “kind of a big deal” is not unwarranted.
I also did 3 loads of laundry, painted my toenails. and entered everyone’s birthdays in my new 2008 planner… and I decided to change things up and order my pizza with only vegetables, completely devoid of pepperoni.
(Heavens I hope someone finds this post funny, because it’s meant to be, despite the fact that it’s all true.)
I don’t really have a lot to report in the way of the art related. I have a couple commissions to work on, otherwise it’s just a matter of time management and focus… ahem.
I was planning to do the Independent Art Market, but I honestly don’t have enough appropriate work on hand to do it justice right now. However, there will be no lack of excellent work there, so definitely check it out this weekend, along with Rock and Roll Craft Show. Supporting local artists while accomplishing your Christmas shopping? Obviously a fantastic idea.
There is an interesting art endeavor going on at the Maplewood Richmond Heights
School District called the Fusion Project. The project intends to explore the combining of writing and visual art. Students are paired up with professional writers and artists in the community, and then we all run from there. I’ve been paired with a young writer and musician, whom I’m looking forward to meeting at the meet and greet next week. I know that Tim and Aunia are also involved, along with many others, and I’m thinking that we’ll see some very cool collaborations.
See, there now, I eventually found something pertinent to say. I’m just out of practice.
